Class 3 Medical Exam

Required for private pilots, recreational pilots, flight instructors, and student pilots. A comprehensive physical exam to ensure you meet FAA safety standards.

FAA MedXPress — Start your medical certificate application

You must complete your MedXPress application before your exam appointment. Bring your confirmation number to the office.

MedXPress is the FAA's official electronic application system for medical certification. Your application expires after 60 days if not submitted to an AME.

Preflight your appointment

  1. 1Complete your MedXPress application at medxpress.faa.gov at least 48 hours before your appointment
  2. 2Download and complete the Dallas AME Medical Checklist prior to your appointment
  3. 3Bring your MedXPress confirmation number (print or save digitally)
  4. 4Bring a government-issued photo ID
  5. 5Bring any relevant medical records for existing conditions or medications; include any Special Issuance (SI), Statement of Demonstrated Ability (SODA), and/or Letter of Evidence (LOE)
  6. 6Bring your glasses or contacts (and contact lens case for uncorrected vision check)
  7. 7Do NOT come if you are ill — reschedule instead
  8. 8First-time applicants: be prepared for color vision testing ($35 add-on)
